For DIY Builders & Makers
Build Professional Diffusers. Without the Professional Price Tag.
Turn your workshop into an acoustic treatment factory. Our tools give you the math and the plans to build studio-quality diffusers yourself โ manufacturing file exports are coming with early access.
Challenges
- Complex Math, No Clear Guide. QRD formulas involve prime numbers, wavelengths, and modular arithmetic. Online calculators give numbers without explaining why.
- Dimensional Uncertainty. How deep should the wells be? How wide? What spacing? One wrong measurement means a diffuser that doesn't work at your target frequency.
- CNC Learning Curve. You have the machine, but generating toolpaths for complex well patterns is tedious. Most CAM software isn't built for acoustic designs.
- Material Waste Anxiety. Hardwood and MDF aren't cheap. A failed prototype because of calculation errors wastes both material and workshop time.
Solutions
- Instant Design Generation. Enter your target frequency range and available dimensions. Generate sequence-based well depths and widths quickly.
- Real-Time 3D Preview. See your diffuser from every angle before cutting a single board. Rotate, zoom, and verify dimensions visually.
- CNC-Ready G-Code Export. Skip the CAM software learning curve. G-code export is planned for early access.
- Complete Build Documentation. Not using CNC? Get detailed plans for table saw, router table, or hand tool construction.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need a CNC machine to build these diffusers?
- No. Complete dimensional drawings and cut lists for table saw, router table, or hand tool construction are available today. CNC file export is planned for early access. Many makers build excellent QRD diffusers with basic woodworking equipment. The MLS and Skyline designs are especially suitable for non-CNC builds.
- What materials work best for acoustic diffusers?
- MDF is the most common choice: affordable, stable, and CNC-friendly. Baltic birch plywood offers better aesthetics and durability. Hardwoods look beautiful but cost more and are harder on tooling. Rigidity and density matter. Avoid softwoods and particle board.
- How do I know what frequency range to target?
- For most home studios and listening rooms, targeting 500Hz to 4kHz covers critical speech and musical frequencies. Your room dimensions determine your specific problem frequencies. Generally, diffusers handle mid-to-high frequencies; bass trapping requires different solutions.
- Can I 3D print acoustic diffusers?
- STL export for smaller panels or prototyping is planned for early access. For full-size diffusers, CNC-cut wood is more cost-effective and produces better acoustic results due to higher mass and rigidity.
- What CNC machines are supported?
- G-code export is planned to support Grbl-based machines (Shapeoko, X-Carve, MPCNC, Onefinity), Mach3/Mach4 controllers, and LinuxCNC, with settings pre-configured for common setups and the ability to customize feeds, speeds, and tool parameters.
